I definitely wouldn't blame the victim. However, my mom always told my sister, you might be in the right, but you're still the one that gets raped.

The cause of rape is shear failure of society and the childhood upbringing of the rapist. Child trafficking and rape are the two worst crimes of the world. Nothing but death penalty suits the rapist. BUT, just like men avoiding certain dark areas to avoid getting mugged, women too should not walk alone on streets where bunch of drug addicts roam at night. Should not wear short skirts where people are still living in 10th century and should not accept drinks from an unknown guy who could've spiked their drinks. I am a sexist, yes I know. But, till a mega campaign doesn't start against rapes, women may need to be on precautionary side (it will take another 20-30 years for our society to improve).

Everyone's like "There's no girls on ." But you can see them all here. Tell people to protect themselves - rather than rely on those who are already mentally disoriented to the point of willing to break the law and ruin someone's life to please themselves - and you get an instant 10 downvotes. People just don't like to be accountable for their own well being. They want a world where they can rely on everyone else to make sure they are okay and safe, and this world is not that world.

In some conservative countries girls are blamed when they are raped - because they did not stay at home and in their safe spaces and allowed for a rapist situation. In such countries (pakistan...) going liberally in a short skirt will get you at löeast unwanted attention if you are a woman, and if you are assaulted, society might not feel the need to defend you. Also, rape as such is elusive, but might it not be there are truly statistical factors that facilitate rape, such as socio-demographic factors, the economy, crime rate in general sex ratio (too many men, too few girls?)
